Girls in the Know

Programming developed to address and target the expressed and identified needs of girls in secure custody. All modules are gender responsive, addressing the particular issues, problems and assets of girls.

How does this Program help?
Girls in the Know provides female youth at Syl Apps a chance to participate in groups that provide assistance on self-awareness, relationships, exploitation, and substance abuse.

What can this Program Do?
Girls in the Know provides support and assistance to young girls in the facility in a setting that allows for gender specific, strength-based life skills coaching.

What Services does this Program Provide?
Female mentors provide programming with an emphasis on activities that focus on empowerment, self-respect and self-efficacy. Through group discussion and relationship building activities, participants not only develop skills and have a better understanding of the various topics, but they are able to draw upon the strengths of one another as they share challenges, successes and influence positive change.

Who is Eligible?
Female youth currently involved in Syl Apps Treatment Facility.
