Diversion Program – An Alternative to Criminal Conviction

How does this program help?

The Diversion Program is designed for first time adult offenders charged with Stage One Provincial Offences.

What can this program do?

The Diversion program provides an opportunity for adults charged with a first offence to be diverted from the traditional justice system. It offers first time offenders an alternative to a criminal conviction.

What services does the program provide?

The program allows first time offenders to take responsibility for their actions without incurring a criminal conviction.

It provides a service to the community through restitution to victims, donations to charities and community service to the public.

What are the required sanctions?

Possible sanctions are as follows:

  1. Verbal Apology
  2. Written Apology
  3. Charitable Donation
  4. Community Service Hours
  5. Restitution/Compensation
  6. Essay
  7. Counselling/Education

In addition to the assigned sanctions, each client is required to pay a $120 administration fee to the Elizabeth Fry Society.

Who Is Eligible?

First time adult offenders charged with a Stage One Provincial Offense. Individual must be approved for the Program by the Provincial Crown Attorney.
